Chamomile - The Calming Flower

Chamomile is our next herb up for feature. This daisy like flower has a distinct floral scent that many people adore. It has many incredible properties that we will highlight in this blog post!

History

Chamomile has been used for centuries to help with sleep and many other ailments. The Egyptians worshipped this plant and thought it more precious than all other herbs. Hieroglyphs depict this herb being used over 2000 years ago for cosmetic purposes. The noble women applied infusions with it to their skin to maintain radiance. Greek physicians often prescribed this herb to reduce fever and for many other ailments. The herb was frequently included in doctor's medicine bags in colonial times. The herb is said to have originated in Britain. It has long been revered all over the world as a crucial healing plant.

Healing + Medicinal Properties

Chamomile has SO many amazing properties. It is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and also frequently used as a sedative + muscle relaxant. Its anti-inflammatory properties make it excellent for wound healing and skin conditions such as eczema. It is helpful for relieving the itch and inflammation that comes along with insect bites. We frequently use chamomile in our healing preparations because of these incredible abilities.

Its sedative effects have been used for centuries as a sleep aid when made into a tea. Chamomile tea has even been used to ease labor pains!

Cosmetic Uses

The compound levomenol present in the flower can reduce the appearance of fine lines and improve the skin's texture with regular use. This amazing herb helps to reduce redness and works to improve skin tone. The flavenoids found in the flower act as an antioxidant, which helps guard the skin against damage from free radicals. For use in hair care, chamomile tea can be used to lighten hair naturally.

As you can see, chamomile is quite amazing and has numerous benefits for medicinal and cosmetic uses. It's my all time favorite herb! We hope you learned something from this post and begin to incorporate chamomile into your routine.
